CAR-T Cell Therapy
CAR-T Cell Therapy is an advanced immunotherapy that reprograms a patient’s T-cells to target and kill cancer cells. T-cells are extracted, genetically engineered to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) that recognize specific cancer antigens, and then re-infused into the patient. These CAR-T cells seek out and destroy cancer cells, showing remarkable success in treating blood cancers like B-cell leukemia and lymphoma. While effective, CAR-T therapy can cause severe side effects, such as Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity, and is complex and costly to produce. However, ongoing research is improving its safety, effectiveness, and accessibility, offering new hope for hard-to-treat cancers.
