Natural Killer Cell Therapies
Natural Killer (NK) cell therapies are an emerging type of immunotherapy that harness the power of NK cells—an integral part of the body's innate immune system—to target and destroy cancer cells. Unlike T cells, which require prior activation by specific antigens, NK cells can recognize and eliminate tumor cells without prior sensitization. This makes NK cells a particularly attractive option for developing cancer treatments, as they can attack a broad range of cancer cells based on stress signals and abnormal markers. NK cell therapies are gaining traction as a powerful tool in the fight against cancer, particularly due to their unique properties of rapid response, broad targeting potential, and lower toxicity compared to other cell-based therapies. While challenges remain, especially in the treatment of solid tumors, ongoing research, and clinical trials are working to refine these therapies and expand their use across various cancer types.
