Oncolytic Virus Therapies
Oncolytic virus therapies are an innovative form of cancer treatment that use viruses specifically engineered or naturally occurring to infect and kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue. These therapies leverage the ability of certain viruses to selectively replicate inside tumor cells, leading to cell lysis (destruction) and stimulating the body’s immune response against the tumor. Oncolytic viruses can also be engineered to carry therapeutic genes or enhance their immunogenicity to improve their efficacy.
Oncolytic virus therapies are a promising frontier in cancer treatment, offering a dual mechanism of direct tumor killing and immune system activation, which holds great potential, especially when combined with other therapeutic modalities.
